What is Greatness?
Many of us desire to be great or achieve great things. There is nothing wrong with this ambition. However, sometimes in pursuit of doing something great, with our own or society’s definition of greatness, it can leave us distant from God and relationships. This is especially true when we are seeking approval or security from people.
Everything they do is done for show and to be noticed by others…They crave the seats of highest honor at banquets and in their meeting places. And how they love to be admired by men with their titles of respect, aspiring to be recognized in public…
Matthew 23:5-7 TPT
Jesus redefines what greatness is and teaches us that…
the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
Luke 22:26-27 NIV84
The greatest among you will be the one who always serves others from the heart.
Matthew 23:11 TPT
In order for us to be truly great in God’s eyes, we need to stop striving to get attention, achieve some status, or position and learn to serve others from the heart.
