This post was written in the midst of our world experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic. Though it discusses topics specific to this time, its insights and scriptures can be appreciated at any time.

With everything going on in the world, it can be easy to become detached and distant. When there are a lot of thoughts, emotions, and fears that fill our hearts, it is tempting to check out and numb ourselves to the pain.

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.

Matthew 24:12 NIV

When we harden our hearts and numb to the pain we feel, our love grows cold, and we are no longer present in our relationships. God wants to heal our hurting hearts, but we have to come closer to him to access that healing.

Whenever my busy thoughts were out of control, the soothing comfort of your presence calmed me down and overwhelmed me with delight.

Psalm 94:19 TPT

When everything seems out of control, God is present with us even when we are detached. He can calm us down and bring us the joy and delight we so desperately want.

But this can feel easier said than done.

That’s where music can help us. Music speaks to the soul and helps us express parts of ourselves that are too deep for words. Through music, we can understand and express our sadness, anger, happiness, insecurity, and so much more.

Through music, we can go from being absent and distant to loving and attached. In other words, we can go from “MIA to present.”

This playlist is meant to display the same progression David went through in the Psalms – starting with songs about feeling lonely, rejected, and afraid of being known, and progressing to seeing how God loves us for who we are and understands what we go through.

Though this progression is meant to help you work through your emotions as you listen, you can listen to the playlist in whatever order you want – it is meant to help you work through, understand and express the emotions of your heart!
