I am weak and feel as if I’ve been broken in pieces. I groan because of the great pain in my heart.Psalm 38:8 NIV
When we’re brokenhearted, it can feel like nothing will ever change. We feel weak, sad, in pain, and, as the psalmist says, it’s as if we’ve been broken in pieces. Whether we are brokenhearted over a breakup, the loss of a loved one, or even a friendship that has faded, it can feel permanent and like no one can pull us out from how low we feel.
Paradoxically, my bitter experience was pushing me toward wholeness. For You, God, have put behind all my shortcomings and wrongdoings. You have rescued me from death. You pulled me from a black hole of nothingness and held me close to You.Isaiah 38:17 – The Voice
When we feel broken, God can make us whole. When we feel like we are at our lowest point, God can pull us out from the “black hole of nothingness” that sucks the life, love, and happiness out of us. He can hold us and make us feel wholly loved again. But when we are in the middle of it all, it can be hard to see that we are both capable and worthy of that love.
That’s where music can help us. Music speaks to the soul and helps us express parts of ourselves that are too deep for words. Through music, we can understand and express our sadness, anger, happiness, insecurity, and so much more. Through music, we can go from feeling sad and broken, to being confident that we are loved and valued. In other words, we can go from being “low to loved.”
This playlist is meant to display the same progression David went through in the Psalms – starting with songs about feeling lonely, rejected, and afraid of being known, and progressing to seeing how God loves us for who we are and understands what we go through. Though this progression is meant to help you work through your emotions as you listen, you can listen to the playlist in whatever order you want – it is meant to help you work through, understand and express the emotions of your heart!
