I am completely numb, totally spent, hopelessly crushed. The agitation of my heart makes me groan.

Psalm 38:8 – The Voice

Hopelessness can be a difficult feeling to express, but the above psalm describes it well. Whether it’s about a circumstance, relationship, or something about ourselves, feeling this hopelessly crushed can make it hard to believe that we are capable of hoping and dreaming again. The great thing about God is that he takes us where we are at. Even when we feel hopeless, we can trust God will stick it out with us.

I said, “I have worked, but how hopeless it is! I have used up my strength, but have accomplished nothing.” Yet I can trust the LORD to defend my cause; he will reward me for what I do.

Isaiah 49:4 – Good News Translation

God doesn’t get down on us for being hopeless, but works at our heart to help us get back on our feet.

And that’s where music can help us. Music speaks to the soul and helps us express parts of ourselves that are too deep for words. Through music, we can understand and express our sadness, anger, happiness, insecurity, and so much more. Through music, we can go from feeling overwhelmed by hopelessness to hopeful and dreaming with God.

The playlist is meant to display the same progression David went through in the Psalms – starting with songs about feeling lonely, rejected, and afraid of being known, and progressing to seeing how God loves us for who we are and understands what we go through. Though this progression is meant to help you work through your emotions as you listen, you can listen to the playlist in whatever order you want – it is meant to help you work through, understand and express the emotions of your heart!
